In 2024, Complete Cafe Services is proud to sponsor Matilda Comley in the WNPL.
Matilda started playing soccer in 2003 for Alice Springs Vikings, after her mother and father had put her into the boy’s team. From there she played in boy’s teams up until the age of 8, playing all over the park in Alice Springs and Adelaide, until she got put into goals when they had no goalkeeper!
From then there was no looking back and unfortunately when she was no longer able to play with the boys, she moved to Para Hills East Under 13 Girls. After a season or two with the Girls, she was selected for the State Under 13 Girls team at age 11. She represented South Australia in Canberra at the National Championship and continued to do so for a few more years.
She also happened to represent South Australia in Futsal (Indoor Soccer) for a longer duration and still does, this week she is going away to Sydney for the Australian Futsal Association National Championship.
At 14, she moved clubs in a hope for more of a challenge and went to Para Hills Knights where she played at Reserve League level and started benching for the Premier League team.
In 2015 she moved to Adelaide City to pursue her soccer career even further, getting her debut in 2015 in the WNPL Cup against West Adelaide. After two years with Adelaide City, in 2017, she moved to Melbourne to study a Diploma of Sports Management and whilst there played for Heidelberg United FC, one of the biggest clubs in Victoria. At the end of 2017, she got the opportunity to represent her country in Barcelona, Spain in the AMF Futsal World Cup. She spent a month in Spain, training with Australia’s best and playing against other countries best in Futsal.
Upon returning to Adelaide in 2018, she was presented with her first Premier League Goalkeeping contract at Fulham United. She stayed with the club for 3 years, helping to keep the club to stay in the WNPL. In 2021, she chose to take a leap of faith to move clubs for a better opportunity, in which after a 3-month stint at Metro United, she found herself at Salisbury Inter. Within her first year at club, the team won the WNPL Premiership, the WNPL Cup and the WNPL Final Series. In 2022, they finished 3rd in the League and Semi-Finalists in the WNPL Final Series.
In 2023, they came 3rd in the League, Runners up in the WNPL Cup and won the WNPL Final Series. Now Matilda approaches 2024, stronger and fitter ready to win another treble with Salisbury Inter. With her team, they are coming into 2024 with a new and very experienced coach coming from England with years of experience and are looking towards a successful year ahead.
Matildas achievements are outstanding, and we congratulate her on her journey.
